In 1992, he went on to be an Investigator/Community Worker in the Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem, New York. NDS opened in 1990 and moved forward to better the community through a holistic public defense practice. Clients are represented by a team that can include criminal attorneys, social workers, investigators, interns, and pro bono attorneys.
As a community worker Mr. Avrunin participated in community events helping address any questions residents’ had in regards to the criminal justice system. With the help of other community organizations, Community Workers hosted education workshops to answer and ease any concerns residents had and further educate and prepare them to deal with justice system.
After helping change lives in his community, Mr. Avrunin decided it was time to obtain his Juris Doctorate degree. Making his way to South Florida, he attended Nova Southeastern University Law School. In 1997, he proudly crossed the stage graduating with honors -cum laude. Today Mr. Avrunin practices Personal Injury Protection Law in Florida and is also licensed to practice law in Maryland.
