Syracuse football Coach Takes the ALS Challenge

Scott Shafer SUIf you’ve gone on social media at all in the last week, it is likely you have heard about the ALS ice bucket challenge. ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s, is a disease that takes hold of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. The ice bucket challenge has gone viral and created awareness as well as raised over $14 million in donations for the ALS Association.

Scott Shafer, Nathan Avrunin’s alma mater’s football coach, has accepted the ALS ice bucket challenge. Coach Shafer is a great sport about dumping ice cold water over his head and helps the awareness going by nominating other football coaches and associations.
